Regulation

Validity and deadlines

There are two different clocks and they are often confused: how often a metering system must be re-verified, and how long the approval of the unit verifying it lasts.

The water use’s clock

The initial inspection takes place within 30 calendar days of the metering system being installed or repaired. From then on, the periodic inspection repeats every 12 months where the system has moving parts and every 7 years where it does not. The extraordinary one has no calendar: an event triggers it.

An expired report leaves the water use without backing before the authority, even if the meter is working perfectly.

The unit’s clock

The approval CONAGUA grants a Verification Unit lasts 4 years and may be suspended or revoked. It does not renew itself. 1

It is also tied to accreditation: if the Mexican accreditation body suspends or revokes the unit’s accreditation, CONAGUA’s approval is suspended or revoked with it. 2

Deadlines that run during the process

  • 10 business days to file the verification outcome in CONAGUA’s electronic system, counted from the procedure.
  • 10 business days to notify CONAGUA of any addition, removal or change of certified verifying personnel.
  • 15 business days to lodge an administrative appeal against a decision, counted from its notification.

All three run for the unit before the authority. 2 3

How to work out your own date

The date that matters for a given water use is that of the last report issued on its metering system, plus the interval matching its type of equipment. If there is no record of one, the starting point is an initial inspection.
